The Hot Condo Market in Toronto

Posted on November 29th, 2006. About Family.

The Toronto condos market is booming, and condo developers are struggling to meet the demand. Whether a first-time buyer or a seasoned veteran, chances are there is the perfect condo for you.

The vast majority of condos in Toronto have been built in the last decade, contributing to a dramatic shift in demographics. Many homeowners today no longer live in a traditional “house” structure; rather, they have chosen to live in a condominium. And with such a diverse selection in a hot market, it is no surprise that condo developers are still continuing to explore sites for new structures.

What is a Condominium?

A condominium is a complex of several units. Each unit is owned by an individual, who receives a deed of ownership. There may be restrictions on ownership, as outlined by the organization or company that owns the complex, however, the owner has the right to sell, mortgage, etc. their unit. Common areas, such as the hallways or lobbies, are shared jointly. Condos in Toronto, and everywhere else in the world, follow this definition. It is typical that each owner pay a monthly fee that goes toward the general maintenance of the complex.

Important Features to Consider

The most important features of a condo in Toronto are its amenities, location, and of course, the price. It is vital that the buyer get value for their dollar.

Amenities of a Condo

Amenities can include such features as a pool, gym, and concierge or doorman providing security 24 hours a day. These are part of the building for shared use, and are in fact standard for many of the newer condos in Toronto. Condo developers have also realized the importance of providing luxuries in the unit itself, such as stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and porcelain tile.

Location, Location, Location

As population density increases in Toronto, more people realize that a traditional house structure is no longer a viable option. Many houses are situated in neighbourhoods difficult to access with public transportation. Those that are accessible tend to be small and old, prone to costly and annoying structural problems. Fortunately, condo developers in Toronto have taken these problems into consideration when determining sites for construction. As a result, most condos are in close proximity to public transportation, various amenities and business centres, allowing residents to live, work and play all in their neighbourhood. No more long commutes!

With fabulous features, convenient amenities, unbeatable location, and a secure living environment, condos in Toronto make city-living idyllic.

Is your relationship moving from casual to serious?

Posted on November 27th, 2006. About Family.

Have you been dating since long? If the answer is yes, you may be moving from a casual relationship to a more serious one.

Read on…

You have been dating someone since long after a great find on an online adult dating, site. It may not have been a love at first sight kind of thing but gradually perhaps without your knowing the relationship moved from casual to serious one.
Mature adult singles don’t take a plunge into relationship but follow a cautious approach towards building relations. The logic is simple; no one wants to experience the distress of a failed relationship.

You begin to meet regularly or live together- the first sign of moving into a serious relationship. Your relationship turns intimate and exclusive and memories of ex-partners or any other alliance fade away. The attraction for others comes to a standstill even if the prospect is more appealing. When this happens it indicates that your relation ship has solidified and both dating couples have become serious about each other. The dating couple, now feels more comfortable in each others presence, and often reveal secrets that they have been hiding earlier.

Small fights that caused lots of distress earlier are tolerated easily and you start communicating more openly with your date. At some stage or other parents, friends or relations or even
Match makers for the more conservative may come into picture by way of being acquainted or sometimes as advisors.

In the final stage you or your date will begin asking serious question to explore the viability of a long term serious relationship. The next and final step is making commitments to each other about things that matter or things that may be futuristic.

You and your date will now stamp in the final seal of approval and marriage contract is signed eventually…thanks to online adult dating the new internet revolution.

The Drive to Forever

Posted on November 25th, 2006. About Family.

It’s the most important ride you’ll ever take: your journey from your house, to your wedding ceremony, where the rest of your life awaits.

So don’t think of your wedding car as a mere vehicle that gets you from two points (in that case, you might as well take a cab). It’s as important element of your wedding, and in some ways, one of the most poignant. Here you will spend the last few minutes as a shy and excited bride-to-be, and here you will spend the first few minutes together as a happy and hopeful couple.

The first thing you need to consider when choosing a wedding car is that it is well maintained and in good running condition. You don’ want it to stall in the middle of the road, do you? Nor would you live down the embarrassment of a car that rattles its way up to the church. So always ask your wedding car supplier how old the car is and when was the last time it was repainted or checked for any broken parts. Ask to see the car before you sign the wedding car rental form.

Then check the interiors. Is it spacious? Is there enough legroom? Remember you’ll be wearing a very delicate, and possibly very voluminous dress (especially if it’s got a lot of taffeta, organza and lace!) You’ll want to be able to sit down without feeling constricted, and that there’s no danger of your dress getting wrinkled when your husband sits next to you.

Also look if the height of the car makes it possible to alight without any difficulty. Again, you’ll be wearing a dress and heels, and all eyes will be on you when you get down. You don’t want to trip, or look very uncomfortable trying to stand up from very low seats. You want to be poised and elegant, remember? Especially since cameras will be documenting every move!

And then there’s the looks. You can get a very modern model, something as sleek as a BMW, or you can opt for a vintage car. It all depends on the theme of your wedding, and of course, your budget. Most wedding car suppliers have several models so you don’t have to feel constricted in your choices. And if they don’t have what you want, you can always shop for another supplier!

Most wedding cars are white. It’s tradition—after all, white is the color of weddings—but that shouldn’t stop you from exploring other options. However, it is generally considered bad luck to be in a black car, as it is associated with death. Don’t forget to affix the bouquet, and the traditional shoes, and you’re ready to go!

End of the Grilling Season

Posted on November 23rd, 2006. About Family.

Here on the east coast, as thoughts of Halloween starts to creep into our kids minds, as adults we start to put away our grills. Sure we had a great summer of grilling, but now that it is ending, what do we have to do to make sure that $500-$1,000 grill will work again next summer? This means we need to break it down!

Propane Tanks
This should be your first matter of attention. It’s always good policy to run your tanks empty before storing the tanks away for the winter. What does it mean to run your tanks empty? The best bet in my opinion is to have one last cookout or grilling! Get a bunch of steak, burgers or hotdogs and do it up one more time. Now, when the meat is off the grill completely and all cooked up, go ahead and keep the burners going. That way, the fire feeds off the gas completely and you’ll know then when there’s no more gas left. Call the cook out the “end of the year I must drain my tank” cookout. If you need some recipes, go ahead and take a gander at http://www.barbecue-recipes.org , they have a good amount.

Once your propane tank is properly emptied, go ahead and store it in a dry, cool place. Garages, and basements are best options. However, depending on where you live, covering the propane tank and leaving it outside will work too. It works in my family, year after year!

With your propane tank properly stored, you need to turn your attention on your grill. What many people fail to do is to correctly scour and clean the grill when putting it away at the end of the year. This only leaves more of a hassle at the beginning of next year, and no one wants to do that. So here is what I do:

Once the propane tank is empty, and once it’s cooled down enough to where I can touch it, I break out the metal scrub brushes that get down and dirty in the fight against burnt up meet and charcoal. This is where you really need to scrub and there are different solvents available for this. What I like to do is take a beat up towel that is bound for the refuse pile anyways, wipe it down with a cleaning agent and then proceed to wipe down the grill. This is done so that you’re not directly spraying any chemicals on the grill itself. Wipe it down, and then scrub til the grime and dirt and left over food is all wiped away.

Then get ready for next year, because the grilling is just around the corner!

Amish People - From America’s Dutch Country a Lesson for the Whole World

Posted on November 21st, 2006. About Family.

In early October 2006 Charles Carl Roberts a 32 year old truck driver brutally shot down five young Amish Girls in the town of Nickel Mines Pennsylvania. Following this slaughter of innocent children the news media made fair coverage but the tragedy was quickly overshadowed by the news about e-mails sent to a congressional page by Florida congressman Mark Foley. Now the debate rages about the resignation of House Speaker Dennis Hastert who allegedly had full knowledge of Foley’s behavior.

Commenting on the indiscretions of congressmen Foley one commentator said “the real issue is keeping our children safe.” Some have equated just sending our children to a public school could be the equivalent of criminal negligence. Safe? If police presence, metal detectors and drug sniffing dogs can’t do that, then what will? God forbid we hold Hollywood and the media culpable. A sex and violence drenched media, a cesspool like ocean of internet porn, a money hungry pop culture full of sexually fired music and images, just couldn’t be what makes our schools unsafe. Naw!

Our children bring those sounds and images with them every day to the public halls of learning and there they create a social peer community in layers. Each layer with its own appointed appellation to keep the strata’s uniquely separate like geek, jock etc. etc. Some kids describe it as something like “hell” itself. Home schooling, private schools and other means of escaping the public school experience are now being sought by millions as relief. Until recently, perhaps becoming a member of an Amish community might have been an option by which to save children from the public school horror show.

The Amish don’t recruit or evangelize but they will accept people who are serious about joining and have fully acquainted themselves with all the Amish customs and rules. In Pennsylvania Dutch country the website of The Fulton Steamboat Inn answers the question “Can an outsider join the Amish church/community?”

“A local Amishman recently remarked, “You do not need to move here to adopt a lifestyle of simplicity and discipleship. You can begin wherever you are.” Yes, it is possible for outsiders, through conversion and convincement, to join the Amish community, but we must quickly add that it seldom happens. First, the Amish do not evangelize and seek to add outsiders to their church. Second, outsiders would need to live among the Amish and demonstrate a genuine conversion experience and faith that results in a changed lifestyle. Third, it is extremely difficult for anyone who has not been raised without electricity, automobiles, and other modern conveniences to adjust to the austere lifestyle of the Amish. And to truly be a part of the Amish community one would need to learn the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect.”

It may not be easy to get in the Amish community and very few from the outside ever do but what comes out of that community is something we should take a long look at…and maybe we can learn something.

With his head turned away from the camera the grandfather of two of the slain girls described a scene that could rip the heart out of anyone. While holding the two in his arms they drew their last breath and expired in his loving arms. On Wednesday October 5 2006 a CNN news women asked him what his feelings were towards the gunmen Charles Roberts. He relied with “we forgive him.” But the story doesn’t end there. The news women then asked “how can you do this?” In a short reply he said “With God’s help.”

All those who glibly put down the entire Christian church and its message with “Oh, the church is just full of hypocrites” can see by this single remark that the church is not quite “full” of the fakers. Here is a profession of faith being put to practice that only someone without brain, heart or conscience could fail to see.

We live in an era where Islam is threatening to kill people for anything they consider insulting to it, much less for not joining it. Hatred seems to be the driving force behind what has been almost jokingly referred to as a “peaceful religion.” Add to this worldwide perverted idea of God, western civilization’s penchant for sleaze, violence and sex and the statement made by the grandfather of the two slain Amish girls looks like a welcome light from the shore in a turbulent storm that threatens to drown the world itself.

People who are genuinely searching often pass by the ceremonies, liturgies and general religious hokey pokey and keep searching until they find something that gives real meaning to life and life itself. That search ends for most people when they discover the power of God’s love. He doesn’t crack the whip of judgment until all else has failed. That is why all judgment is reserved until the end.

Through Christ the gift of salvation is offered freely but it is only free to the taker, the giver paid the very highest price to purchase it by his death on the cross. It was there where the greatest example of forgiveness the world will ever see was fully displayed. Writhing in anguish and pain Christ looked upward to God the Father and cried “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34

Forgiving us was the costliest thing in the world for Christ and for us to forgive each other also has a high price attached to it. The world view of forgiveness is that it is a show of weakness. This notion is not just off by a few degrees it is diametrically opposite the truth. Forgiveness is the costliest matter on earth and it the most powerful substance known to man. It dwarfs the implications of E=MC2 and cheapens the price of gold.

America and the world community are undergoing a transfer from the forces and wrangling of mere ideologies to the heretofore ignored implications of theologies. A loving Savior or a wrathful and vengeful God as presented by Islam are the only choices. Those who have previously remained aloof to these theologies are finding that they can not escape the turbulence that is now emerging as an outgrowth from them.

Now and then a great reflection of the mercy of God shown to us through forgiveness comes across the waves. One gentlemanly old Amish grandfather has just sent a bright light along with those who share his faith. We can only hope that all churches and the whole world will not let this beam of light be blocked out by the raging storm of societies other urgencies’ and distractions.

Health Spa Treatments Using Lavender Herbs From Your Own Herb Garden

Posted on November 19th, 2006. About Family.

Health spa treatments can be costly. Have you ever considered creating your own home spa by using lavender and other herbs from your own herb garden? After all of the hours you spent planting and tending to your herb plants, reap another benefit by using your herbs to make herbal cosmetics, herbal teas or herbal medicines and by all means as ingredients for a home spa. Some people have spaghetti herb gardens, or salad gardens even headache gardens, consider this your own Spa Herb Garden!

For very soft touchable skin use Lavender or Calendula leaves and petals. Bruise the leaves and petals and put them into a glass jar. Pour enough olive oil into the jar to cover the herbs. Set the jar on a sunny window and shake everyday for two to three weeks. Strain the oil through cheese cloth pressing on the solids to remove all essential oils. Reseal the jar and place in a dark place. The herbal oil should last up to one year. This soothing Lavender oil can be applied directly to the skin or used in a bath.

Put lavender flowers and leaves into a warm bath and soak. Or put them in a muslin bag which you will hook over the running water while filling the tub. The Lavender will fill your bathroom with a wonderful scent. Since Lavender is known for its calming effect, what better way to relax after a day of gardening than a long soothing bath filled with Lavender?

Lavender is a natural anti depressant so place bowls of dried lavender around the house. Or since Lavender is known for its claming effect, boil a large pot of water, throw in the lavender, and place a towel over your head as you bend down over the pot. Inhale in the delightful smell and feel its soothing properties from the steam on your skin.

Another lovely way to use Lavender is to sew them into little bags and put them between your pillow and pillow case. The beautiful calming scent will help you sleep.

Calendulas may also be used in the bath. An even better way to use this herb is as an antiseptic. Again, bruise the leaves and flowers and add them to olive oil. It will relieve stings, chapped lips, cuts and burns.

To make you’re won spa loofahs plant Luffa aegyptiaea. For a home spa tool grow the plant in full sun in a place where the plant can climb. When you harvest it, soak it in water to soften the brown skin, peel and set out in the sun to dry. Save the seeds for your next years Spa Herb Garden.

Now let’s make some refreshing teas using herbs from your herbal garden for use in your mini home spa. Most people look at roses as just beautiful blooms, but rose hips have more vitamin C than oranges. The little round balls in the center of the rose is the hips. Gather them and grind them in a coffee grinder. Steep them in very hot water, not boiling, for about ten minutes and enjoy your fruity tea.

For a calming tea try Chamomile or for a refreshing tea try Lemon balm. All of these herbs can be grown in your own yard and will create a wonderful home health spa experience.

Taking Care of Your Shih Tzu’s Teeth and Gums

Posted on November 15th, 2006. About Family.

Clean teeth and gums are very important to the overall health of your Shih Tzu. Here is some information on the most common dental problems in dogs and ways of treating them.

Common dental problems

- Periodontitis

It is very common among Shih Tzu and all dogs to have gum disease. At the age of two or three, many dogs have either periodontitis or gingivitis.

The most common dental problem for canines is periodontitis, also known as periodontal disease. The disease is caused by various factors: plaque, food debris, cell mucus, and a mixture of bacteria. This results in a film characterized by milky-white on the dog’s teeth as well as the gums. When this film gets combined with saliva, the plaque it causes becomes tartar, and very hard to remove.

- Gingivitis

Gingivitis, also known as gum disease, happens when gum tissue suffers from an inflammation. Without treatment, it can lead to periodontitis, teeth loosening, bone loss, and ultimately, loss of teeth.

- Tooth fractures

Tooth fractures occur when Shih Tzu or any dog chew hard substances, such as hard rocks and cow hooves. The fractures result to infection inside the broken tooth, which is known as the endodontic disease.

How to prevent dental problems

Your Shih Tzu can fight off these dental problems by removing the plaque before it actually develops as tartar. How to do it? The most effective way is by brushing the teeth of your Shih Tzu in a mechanical fashion. The brushing would reduce much of the bacteria presence in the mouth, not to mention making your Shih Tzu’s breath smell sweeter. Make it a habit of brushing your Shih Tzu’s teeth on a daily basis.

Toothpaste: There are toothpaste products made especially for dogs. Brush your Shih Tzu’s teeth using dog toothpaste. Human toothpaste is specifically designed for humans to spit the paste washings out. Dogs cannot do that, so pick dog toothpaste that is safe enough for your Shih Tzu to swallow.

Toothbrush: Using a toothbrush in its teeth will take some time for the Shih Tzu to get used to. Let your dog be acquainted and get used to this is by putting some garlic salt, mix the salt with water, and dip the solution in an old toothbrush. Hold the old brush, and let your Shih Tzu taste and chew it. Your Shih Tzu will start to realize that chewing a toothbrush is and tastes good. Make it a habit a few times, until he feels comfortable brushing with it.

Finger brush: You could also use a finger brush instead of a toothbrush. A finger brush is a good alternative, although nothing could replace the good toothbrush. The finger brush just fits onto one’s fingertip and can let you brush the Shih Tzu’s teeth without the dog knowing it. Well, at least almost. The disadvantage of getting a finger brush to clean your Shih Tzu’s teeth is that its bristles are quite large for the brush to go under the gum line’s margin as effectively compared with regular toothbrush.

Professional cleaning: If you don’t want to do the cleaning by yourself, you could take your Shih Tzu to a veterinarian and have his teeth professionally cleaned. A good veterinarian will take additional measures in ensuring your Shih Tzu’s clean teeth by anesthetizing your Shih Tzu, scraping the buildup of plaque from all over the gum line areas, and polishing the teeth for a sparkling finish.

Home checkup: Try to make it a regular habit of checking the teeth of your Shih Tzu for any cracked or broken teeth. If you see some problematic teeth, check promptly with the veterinarian.

Home safety: Of course, cleaning your Shih Tzu’s teeth does not mean you should disregard other areas of concern. Tough substances, such as bones, rocks, hard nylon, or cow hooves should be removed from areas where your dog could see. Buy your Shih Tzu chewing toys that are safer like rubber-made toys. You could also provide bones that are soft enough for your dog to chew.

Mouthwash: There are some products in the market that deal very well in helping to kill the bacteria in your dog’s mouth and could actually help heal damaged gum tissues. Do not forget to ask your veterinarian on the best products in the market.

Dental problems do not only happen to humans. Shih Tzu and all dog breeds also have dental issues. It is up to the owners on how to help their pet dogs overcome their dental problems.
