Cheating Signs: The Biggest Mistake People Make When Reading Them.

Posted on January 30th, 2007. About Family.

The dictionary defines cheating as “to deceive by trickery, or swindle.” It goes on to say that to cheat is to “act dishonestly, or violate rules deliberately.” In the terms of a relationship when the above definition of cheating is applied, the results of what is considered unacceptable contact with another person are very broad.

When a partner betrays the expectations of what is acceptable in the relationship you have to be mindful that the other will feel hurt, mislead, angry, deceived, or a host of other emotions. Their heart will have influence over how they feel, rather than logic, and rationalization. Thus, cheating is hard to define and depends on what you and your partner agree on what is appropriate, or inappropriate.

For example, some people feel it is improper to talk about sexual topics with someone else, deny being involved, develop a crush or commit emotional infidelity, and more recently, have an online affair. The list could be endless, but no matter what the act or how you define cheating, the result is always the same; the other will end up feeling rejected and abandoned.

Problems mainly arise because of a lack of communication. Many couples rarely talk about cheating, and when they do, it is usually not about what their expectations are, and what they feel is intolerable. That is when the room for error is allowed; you can’t break a rule you didn’t know existed - or can you? Some partners may very well try to use that to their advantage, which is why talking it out with your mate is critical. Open lines for communication will not only breed a healthy relationship, it will also allow you to avoid the pitfalls of not knowing what was out of bounds until after the line was crossed.
With that said, be sure that before you get caught up in the many signs of cheating, you realize that everyone is different and no one sign is a definite reflector of an unfaithful partner. Make sure you talk to your mate about the relationship boundaries of what you feel is or is not appropriate. This way you have a clear-cut view on how your partner feels, and can avoid false accusations that may lead to more mistrust.

Playing with Yarn

Posted on January 28th, 2007. About Family.

Cut a piece of yarn about a foot long. Hold it at eye level. Shake it. Jiggle it. Swirl it around. Tie a knot near one end. Tie another one near the middle. Tie the two ends together. Swing the loop around your fingers. Hang it from a nail.

Yarn can be as playful as any toy you’ve ever had. Even more, because it doesn’t put any limits on your imagination. And it’s cheap. For about two bucks you can get half a pound of a bright, wiry acrylic.

So go ahead–start playing!

*****
If I could give one piece of advice to people beginning to use yarn, this is it: stay away from patterns. The people who write patterns are highly skilled, sophisticated designers, and your early (and middle and late-middle) experiments will look crude and clumsy compared to their work. But–BUT–the experiments will be YOURS, while other people’s patterns will not.
It all depends on what you want–if you want to make pretty things that other people admire, then patterns will help you. But those pretty things and that admiration will become addictive, and the longer you use other people’s designs, the harder it’ll be to create on your own.

If, however, you want to use your yarn like a painter uses paint, you need to develop the courage to be crude and clumsy and to make useless things that you throw away.

Eventually you’ll figure out how to make useful things if you want to, because you’ll be developing technical skill and design intuition with each experiment that you toss in the trash.

I’ve taught myself to use yarn the way I use paper. This is the second time I’ve tried to write this paragraph–the other one has scratches out and squiggles and a big X through it. And I’m going to throw away all the sheets that I’m writing on once I type everything into my computer.

I use my yarn just as lightly–I make something, fool with it a bit, maybe even admire it, and then toss it out. Sometimes my husband photographs some of the pieces for my web page, but I refuse to become attached to them because I’m much more interested in the doing than the done.

*****

Every so often I feel loose enough to dance with my yarn. I cut slits in the vertical ends of a piece of watercolor paper, warp with pearl cotton #8, tie a length of embroidery thread to a warp, and go looping and knotting across the page. My dance weavings are spontaneous–I don’t measure the slits, I don’t choose the threads ahead of time, and I don’t know where I’m going until I tie on a thread and start dancing. I rarely spend more than fifteen minutes on a weaving, but it takes me weeks or months to store up enough confidence to make one. Then, of course, I start having such a good time that I make two or three in one sitting!

*****

Find 3 yarns that look good together. Cut about a 2-foot length of each. Tie them together at one end, leaving about a 1-inch fringe. Lay the knot on the edge of a table, put a heavy book on it, and braid the yarns until you have about 1-1/2 inches left. Then make a knot at the end of the braid.

Now cut 3 lengths of each yarn, combining 1 of each yarn into each braiding strand, and make a braid.

Now cut 3 more lengths of each yarn, but keep all 3 of one color together to form a braiding strand, and make a braid.

Look at your braids. How are they similar? How are they different? Do you prefer 3 lengths or 9? Do you prefer combining the colors or keeping them separate?

Do this experiment again, but twist the yarns instead of braiding them. How do the twists look? What are the similarities and differences, both among the twists and between the twists and the braids? Which do you prefer?

This is an experiment you can perform again and again, using all sorts of yarns in all sorts of combinations. Try 3 of 1 yarn and 6 of another, or 2 and 1 or 7 and 2 or 2 and 3.

Just keep trying.

*****

The biggest problem in the yarn world today is the lack of education in art. The great pioneers of Hippiedom–Magdalena Abakanowicz, Lenore Tawney, Ed Rossbach–all went to art school and have remained actively involved with art and artists throughout their lives.

Keeping us ignorant could be a conspiracy on the part of the yarn establishment (whatever that might be) to keep us servile and dependent, but I doubt it. I think it’s just inertia, a continuation of the split (turning into a gulf) between art and craft. It’s easier for everyone to depend on a few leaders to make the patterns for the rest of us to follow. Occasionally a gifted amateur will break through with some original work, but mainly it’s the same old, same old, rutted, constricted way.

So how do you go about educating yourself? For starters, go through the shelves in the 700’s section of your library. You’ll find books about art theory and technique, as well as those beautiful collections of artwork. Learn about composition and design. Find an artist whose work you like and study that work. Find another artist. Watch some of Sister Wendy’s videos.

And start really looking at your world. Is the sky the same blue every day? How is it different from 9am to high noon to 6pm? Are all gray skies the same? What about grass–is it uniformly green? And is a tree the same color up close as when you’re ten feet away?

Look. Question. Look some more.

And never stop thinking and learning.

*****

Find a skein of yarn you like. Make a loop at one end and then knot the loop around its bottom. Pull a loop through it and knot that around its bottom. Pull and knot a few more loops. Then pull a loop and also pull it through another loop. Knot it around its bottom. Pull and knot a few more, then pull through another loop and knot.

As you keep going, you’ll be making a loose, loopy, spherical shape. Keep looping and knotting, occasionally stopping to look at your shape and judge where you need to loop next. When you have a shape you like, make one last loop and knot it, then cut the yarn from the skein.

Hang your sphere by its last loop on a nail over an archway. Look at it from all directions. Admire it for a day or two. Then take it down and make another one.

And another.

And another.

All About Student Loans

Posted on January 26th, 2007. About Family.

Let’s face it, most of us do not have access to bottomless trust funds or college education accounts. Therefore, financial aid for a college education is an arena a large percentage of people will have to enter at some point in their lives. Not everyone can or will qualify for a scholarship, grant, or fellowship, and even if they do, this type of financial aid may only cover a portion of their educational expenses. With the ever-increasing costs of higher education, even families that save and save for their child’s future education can come up short when the time comes.

Whether you are going to college, planning your child’s college education, or paying down existing college debt, student loans are the most common and often the most practical way to go.

There is an abundance of student loan sources to be found. The primary question and ultimate goal is to find the one that fits your particular needs and budget.

For future academics there may be a direct student loan or a private student loan program that will suit you.

You may already be in college, be a college graduate, or be in the midst of pursuing a postgraduate degree. And you may be looking to simplify your finances. Student loan debt consolidation can help to ease to your mind and your financial burden.

For those families and/or individuals that have a sketchy credit history, all is not lost. There are sources and financial institutions that can provide a bad credit student loan.

Whatever your respective needs or circumstances, know that financial aid is available for the asking. Although the prospect of doing the research and filling out loan applications may seem daunting, it will be time well spent. There is much to be said for setting out to reach a goal or capture a dream, which for many is just getting to college. When it is all said and done, the rewards can be boundless.

”You Want Chihuahua Then Consider This?”

Posted on January 24th, 2007. About Family.

I have listed what could be considered four main criteria to take account of if you are intending to buy a Chihuahua whether it be as a pet or a show dog.

Hype – A lot of people are drawn to the Chihuahua because it is small and this has a tendency for those that don’t know to think and small dogs are cute. You will hear phrases like “Tea cup” or “Deer”. These are not breeds as they do not stand alone i.e. put two Tea Cups together and out come “normal” Chihuahuas. Same applies for “Deer” Chihuahuas. These descriptions are simply used by sellers and breeders to demand more money from gullible customers that want a cute small dog.

Fragility – If you want to run the risk of killing your Chihuahua then allow small children near them! It in my mind is common sense that as these dogs are so small the bones must be weak and as children are excitable they could inadvertently injure or even kill your dog. It is not unknown for the Chihuahua to be damaged by getting a well meaning hug from someone. There is at the same time no need to over protect them us be aware that they are not as strong as larger dogs.

Behaviour – Having said previously that these dogs are fragile I am now going to reveal how daft they can be. This is because a Chihuahua is a strong willed dog that shows little fear. They have been known to at least attempt to boss large dogs about. This includes those with a reputation for violence. There is an old saying that goes “It is not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog”. This is true of the Chihuahua. Although brave they are very good pets but do require firm handling. Not hitting just firm, authority and they are as good as gold. If you are not firm bad habits like yapping and aggression to strangers start to appear. So be firm but kind and they will love you better than any other dog breed.

House training – Due to having a mind of its own the Chihuahua can be difficult to train. In my mind this makes it all the more rewarding to do so and see the results. Ironically training gets harder if the dog is shy (Yes shy Chihuahuas do exist). They are easy to spot train though. Do not use a crate! Not only do I like to see any dog in a cramped box if training is done right it is not needed. As with any dog firm but kind training techniques should be always be employed. Never raise your voice and especially never hit, the teeth hurt!

If you are spot training your Chihuahua because it has to be on its own indoors, or out doors, you can employ a litter tray with this breed. They will use it and it makes your job easier as well

As with all dogs there are down sides to owning them but the upside is that they are great. Especially the Chihuahua. Do this right and you will have a loving and very loyal companion for about 17 – 20 years. What I missed that bit out? Yes they can live that long!

There love is displayed so often but you never tire of it. They travel well and mine loves the car. In fact he thinks all cars with open doors are for him. You get cuddles and snuggles a plenty. Although they need exercise the Chihuahua is clever enough to know when and how much. Sometimes they want a lazy walk others they want to run.
Whatever it is doing the Chihuahua is as near as possible to being the perfect pet, so if you want one do your research, choose wisely and have a great time with a lovely dog.

Picking the Right Dog Breed

Posted on January 22nd, 2007. About Family.

There are several hundred dog breeds for you to choose from, so how do you choose? How can you manage to pick with dog breed is perfect for you and your family? You can start by narrowing down your choices by using our suggestions outlined below.

First, how much available space do you have for your dog? Do you live in an apartment? If so, you should rule out the larger dog breeds. Look for smaller dog breeds such as Terriers or maybe a Miniature Schnauzer.

Children are another consideration. Small dog breeds such as Chihuahuas are very small and delicate and can easily be hurt by young children. But in the same turn you don’t want a large breed dog that will end up knocking over your child and bumping into him. If this is the case, a medium dog breed would be your best option such as a Fox Terrier, Lhasa Apso or maybe even a Labrador.

Next how much exercise will your dog be able to receive? Do you have a fenced in yard that will allow your dog to get his own exercise? Some dog breeds require more exercise then others while other breeds are mild and calm and don’t require much to be happy and healthy.

And we can’t forget your dog’s grooming needs. There are some breeds that only require a half hour of grooming per week, while other breeds need grooming daily. If you don’t have the want or the time to spend grooming a dog daily, steer clear of breeds such as the Maltese. While Boston Terriers make a good choice with little grooming needs.

When you narrow down which dog breed you think will make a good fit for you and your family age is the next concern. Do you want a puppy or do you want a dog that is a couple years old and past the training stage but still young? The options are endless there are literally hundreds of different dog breeds of all different sizes, ages, colors and temperament. Take the time to do a little research so you know what you will be getting yourself into with your new loveable pet.

Is a GPS useful on vacation?

Posted on January 18th, 2007. About Family.

Vacations are times to relax and enjoy, not worry about finding your way around. Are you flying, or driving? Are you going somewhere that you know well or somewhere totally new? Are you renting a car if you’re flying, or are you going to depend on taxis? If you are traveling by taxi do you know if a ‘shortcut’ the taxi driver suggests is really a shortcut or possibly are you being scammed to increase your rate. What are your plans once you get to your destination? Are you going backpacking, hunting, or fishing, or do planning a trip to a resort and plan on lying by the pool and just relaxing? Wouldn’t it be nice not the have to worry about finding a location, or a good restaurant. Your visit would be much more enjoyable without this concern.
Is it possible that you will be off in your own airplane, with a GPS you can create your flight plans and get automatic calculations of headings, winds, time, and fuel or recalculate your heading. Are you driving or plan on renting a car once you get to your destination? Do you know the route well or is this a new adventure? Whether this is a trip that you frequently make or not a GPS can be indispensable. What if you get detoured due to an accident or road construction, what if you run into a large traffic jam do you need to sit and wait, or is there possibly another route you could take? Have you ever wanted to get off the beaten path and explore somewhere new but were afraid of getting lost? Wouldn’t it be nice just to take off to somewhere new without the fear of getting lost? Do you plan on going fishing? Wouldn’t it be nice to know where the fish are, so you can spend your time catching fish, instead of spending your whole vacation with the possibility of catching nothing?
Have you planned a trip to visit a foreign country but were afraid you have trouble getting around when street signs are in a different language? With a GPS you put in your destination and find the location that you would like to go to. There is also translation software which can be downloaded to your PCA.
Are you going backpacking, hiking or camping, or even plan on taking a bike ride, with a GPS you have the added security of knowing if you get lost you can find your way out. Is there an area you always wanted to explore, but was afraid of not finding your way back.
Vacations are too far apart (2-3 weeks a year?) and are planned, paid for and anxiously awaited for to have to worry about getting lost. Whether you plan on lying by the beach or pool all day, you might want to find a certain restaurant or shop, or hiking through the forest a GPS can take the worry out of traveling and allow you to enjoy your trip.

3 Different Las Vegas Wedding Invitation Themes

Posted on January 16th, 2007. About Family.

Las Vegas wedding invitations were hard to find less than a year ago, but since then not only have hundreds of Las Vegas wedding invitations sprung online, but different Las Vegas wedding invitation themes have as well. We will show 3 different Las Vegas wedding invitation themes.

The first Las Vegas wedding invitation theme is the most obvious and most popular. It is none other than the Las Vegas welcome sign. The bright lights of the sign are the theme of more than half of the Las Vegas wedding invitations in existence. Graphic designers who design the Las Vegas wedding invitations with the Las Vegas welcome sign have even taken the theme even further by creating the welcome sign in different colors ranging from baby pinks to bright yellows, oranges and reds. The welcome sign is no longer considered tacky on the Las Vegas wedding invitations created because some of the most elegant Las Vegas themed wedding invitations feature the welcome sign in black and white on beautiful translucent overlays.

The second Las Vegas wedding invitation theme that is also quite popular, but not quite as popular as the Las Vegas welcome sign, is the theme of the Las Vegas city lights. The bright lights of the strip are on at least a fourth of the Las Vegas style invitations. While this may seem like a pretty simple theme for a Las Vegas style invitation, it is as diverse as the Las Vegas welcome sign. The colors of the strip have been altered so that Las Vegas invitations can feature the strip lights in an elegant black and white as well as pinks and purples for the girly, cutesy invitations. The lights of Las Vegas can be found in nearly every collection of Las Vegas wedding invitations including the recently announced Sephora Collection and Paprika Collection, both which can be found at vegaswedlockinvitations.com.

The third Las Vegas wedding invitation theme consists of palm trees. Palm trees are quite common for any destination wedding invitation and Las Vegas wedding invitations are no different. While not as popular as the welcome sign and the city lights, it is definitely a hot theme for Las Vegas wedding invitations. However, there is a catch to this theme. For a Las Vegas wedding invitation to truly be a Las Vegas style invitation, it must feature Las Vegas and a palm tree doesn’t do that because palm trees grow in many areas of the world. Thus, the third most popular Las Vegas wedding invitation theme includes a Las Vegas phrase somewhere on the invitation with the palm tree. The most popular Las Vegas wedding invitation wording phrase was coined by VegasWedlockInvitations.com when they started their business in January of 2006 which is “What Happens in Vegas … Stays in our Hearts.”

The fourth Las Vegas wedding invitation theme varies according to a Las Vegas couple’s wedding venue. A new Las Vegas wedding invitation collection titled “location” features photos of many Las Vegas wedding chapels and venues like the famous Little White Wedding Chapel. The Bellagio, Paris, Venetian, Mirage, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Luxor and the Excalibur are just a few of the Las Vegas wedding chapels and Las Vegas wedding venues that the new collection features.

Many Las Vegas wedding invitation companies carry the themes that we have mentioned. Simply search google for “invitations ‘name’ collection” to find a retailer of the collections. For example, for those searching for the Las Vegas wedding invitation collection “Sephora” one would search: invitations Sephora collection.

Las Vegas wedding couples can also find these collections at vegaswedlockinvitations.com.
